Question by born_2_learn: Is a vote for a third party presidential candidate a wasted vote?
Is a vote for a third party presidential candidate a wasted vote? What about voting for a third party candidate for Congress or the Senate, or voting for a third party candidate at the state and local level? Are these wasted votes?

Best answer:

Answer by Poly_777
No. The other alternative is not to vote at all.
In addition voting for a third party candidate gives that party message more visibility and acceptance.
If it happens that the third party candidate gets more 2% or more that is waste.

What do you think? Answer below!

came from the hospital (on a stretcher if I recall) to cast a vote in his state legislature? This happened fairly recently. The guy may be a candidate for Congress. I read about him and have forgotten the details.

Best answer:

Answer by Bob P
The first politician to receive a transplant (that I know of) was Kansas City Mayor John Reardon, who received a heart transplant in February 1987. The next prominent example was Pennsylvania Governor Robert Casey, who received a heart-liver transplant for amyloidosis in June 1993. More recently, Texas state Senator Mario Gallegos (D, Houston) received a liver transplant last month for alcoholic cirrhosis. Questions of preferential treatment were raised when both of these politicians received their transplants surprisingly soon after being listed, but no evidence of favoritism was found, though Governor Casey’s case led to changes in the allocation rules for those waiting for multiple lifesaving organs. Representative Charles Norwood (R, GA) unfortunately died of cancer this past week, having received a single lung transplant for idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis in October 2004.

Question by jesswzmn: Why are voters taking out their anger against Bush on GOP congress candidates?
The pattern is clear. GOP candidates for the house and the senate are in trouble and will be in trouble. Even conservative pundits are admitting this is an election year that does not favor congressional candidates…and the reason given is that basically people are unhappy with president Bush and his policies and not happy with the direction he has put the country in.

Yet, in spite of all this, it seems americans are tossed up on whether to elect the democratic presidential nominee whether Clinton or obama when going up against the GOP candidate McCain, who agrees with much of president Bush’s policies.

I find this quirk very fascinating. Anyone has any opinions on this phenomenon? Why would the american electorate be so unhappy with the GOP president Bush and his policies, and be willing to punish GOP congressional candidates for Bush’s perceived bad policies or bad direction…and more willing to reelect and very Bush like policy wise GOP candidate who will
many of Bush’s policies and viewpoints that americans are unhappy with?

Best answer:

Answer by Derrick P
Because they indorse everything he does. It’s sort of like Mayor Daley and the city goverment in Chicago.
Nobody has the gull to stand against him.

Question by Fishie gone wild: Is a presidential candidate selected by Congress?
This is for civics! So it means that is a candidate selected by Congress when the parties are choosing one?

Best answer:

Answer by Joseph
no not a candidate for president only in the result of a electoral tie or if no reaches 270 then the house picks the president and the congress picks the vice

^^^^^as it is the founding fathers wanted every election decided this way with no man surpassing the majority of the electoral college that has only happened twice however
